Whiten my teeth
How can I whiten my teeth?
Whitening is done at home, with custom-made trays and the gel the Center gives you: it can significantly improve the whiteness of your teeth. Our dentists use two methods:
- Chemical whitening, which modifies the internal colour of the teeth
- Mechanical whitening, which removes surface stains from the teeth
The treatment takes two appointments: an impression, then we give you your trays and explain how to use them.
What is the treatment process?
Chemical whitening involves applying a peroxide-based gel to the teeth to remove unwanted discolouration. When peroxide comes into contact with the teeth, it helps eliminate pigments that have built up in the enamel and dentin, thereby altering the colour.
What are the side effects of teeth whitening?
Some side effects may be associated with chemical teeth whitening procedures, regardless of the method used.
- Tooth sensitivity that may be caused by the whitening product
- Gum or throat irritation due to poorly fitted trays or ingestion of the whitening product
- Jaw joint discomfort related to wearing the trays
What causes teeth to turn yellow?
Over time, the enamel, the outer layer of the teeth, tends to thin. The dentin underneath becomes increasingly visible. Because dentin is naturally yellowish, this affects the colour of the teeth, making them appear more yellow or grey.
Cigarette smoke, coffee, red wine, tea, and certain foods cause stains that gradually penetrate the teeth over the years. As we age, it is therefore normal for teeth to become darker.

Whitening strips vs. custom-made trays: which should you choose?
Whitening strips sold in pharmacies can offer a slight brightening effect, but their results are limited. They contain a low concentration of whitening agent, and their standard shape does not perfectly fit the teeth, often leading to uneven and less durable whitening.
In contrast, professional whitening uses much more powerful and safe products prescribed and followed by the dentist. The trays are custom-made, ensuring uniform, fast, and long-lasting results. The dentist can also adjust the treatment based on your sensitivity and protect your gums.
In summary:
- Whitening strips: affordable, easy to use, moderate results
- Custom-made trays: more effective, safer, visible and lasting results
For a truly whiter and more even smile, professional whitening remains the most reliable solution.
